Album Reviews
Those of us who know about Efterklang know that their music sets boundaries. Although I'm still yet to hear their debut 'Springer' EP - I was introduced with 'Tripper' which almost had me hooked from the start. Their combination of string arrangements with fractured electronics and careful vocals was mindblowing. It was universally praised by many respected press - and too right, they deserve it! So a few years on, and we're onto preparations for their 2nd Official LP. This is a mini-album to wet our appetites until the new album arrives, and wow! I cannot wait until it arrives! What we're hearing from this mini-album is much progression from their previous amazing efforts, into something more organic, heavier and beautiful. They've utilised a whole selection of new instruments in this record, recorded a whole pool of new field recordings, and plus there's more of a 'band' effort when it comes into joing on vocals. Not that I understand them (I'm slightly deaf), but you can feel here in 'Falling Horses' that there's more of a concentrated effort to get their emotion into the songs. Areas certainly touch upon Tripper like in 'Himmelbjerget'. And 'Towards The Bare Hill' is just.... amazing - the drums, strings, wails, electronics etc go together so well! This is probably the strongest track on the EP. All these 5 tracks we're presented with here on lush white vinyl makes me mucho excited to hear what's to come next! Thing is - and this is where we, as fans, are being treated.... next album due out later this year contains completely NEW tracks! So that's two EP's and an LP in one year! I think we can all consider ourselves spoilt! :D Myspace: Efterklang
