Album: Altered Realities

Release Date: Out Now
Format: CD

I'm not sure how many of you have delved into the world of sound so much that it becomes more art and less 'melody', but that's what this is. Not that this is a bad thing like, it's actually a pleasant record. Erdem has taken an acoustic guitar and planted it into his computer on the Audiomulch, which when played, it produced a kind of 'gulky' resonating sound. Quite pleasant if you're looking for something almost entirely ambient and dreamy. If you close your eyes when listening to it, you'll certainly feel 'other worldly' in the sense that hes managed to depict well constructed dreamscapes from what equipment he has.

What's impressive around the record is, it's an entirely unedited live recording of what he was playing at the time. The 'audiomulch' effect makes a big appearance in the album, actually shaping a lot of it. You get a great sense of calm throughout, particularly in 'Frozen Resophonic' - which to me depics walking through some blue, icy cavern whilst you observe the details. Not bad like. Occasionally, melodies are plucked with the guitar to drive the track along, then Erdem will put some mad electronic pulse or mulch in to fill some gaps, then we might have some string arrangements build over that, made entirely from synths. Layer upon layer, it's quite delicately constructed.

As an 'art' piece, the record flourishes into worlds of its own. Presenting us with sounds rarely heard and put together in such away that they can actually be considered melodic! Reading on his background story, hes not just been composing records for pure listening, but also music for films - which explains why this is mostly a slow 'ambient analogue meets digital' affair. If you're a fan of Christian Fennesz, then you'll probably like this.
