Album Reviews
I like it when I'm pleasantly suprised with an email from some obscure band or artistst, asking for my help with reviewing their music. I especially like it when it's something inventive. The album as a whole won't fit into any form of mainstream at all - it's far too avant-garde - but this doesn't stop if from being interesting. There's bits of folk, avant-jazz, field recordings, mangled electronics and anything else they could get their hands on. What's interesting is how some of the 'instruments' manage to fix together into something appealable and unique. They're managing to mix them with analogue synth and traditional instruments, to add some flavour to the mix. It does it quite well. Fans of Bjork in her Matthew Barney era will enjoy this, or fans of Jackie O' Motherfucker even. What's interesting is the thought of what they'll sound like as a band after a few more years - when their sound is more developed. Right now it sounds like more of a mix of 'ideas' put down onto record, with occasional melodies to blend things in... but what is exciting is how these ideas will blossom into something amazing! I wait with good anticipation!
